A quiet moment while setting up the shot today @thehenryjones.

As Artist in residence for the month of July I’m exploring new ideas and indulging in a few creative whims.

If you’re interested to see what this new project entails, you can drop in to find out. It feels so new and fresh to me that I’m hesitant to show too much… I’m enjoying seeing how it emerges without expectation…

But if you drop in and say Hi you’ll get some of the vibe all the same…

The coffee is great and the pace is most laid back…

I’ll be there afternoons… Fri, Sat and Sun…

I haven’t made it to Dark Mofo yet (sinful I know!) but I still don’t want to ignore all the fun!

This is an oldie but I still love it. Worth a share. There’s been some good ones over the years. Dark Mofo is such a good opportunity to play and I’m not sure but I reckon photographers might have the most fun. It’s such a cool playground for us.

I’d head up this weekend but I’m off to Sydney for the Ravenswood Art Prize. So... I guess if I’m going to make it I’d wanna make a move soon. Will I or won’t I? I reckon you guys might know the answer… but don’t write me off just yet… 🤣

ALONG THE TRAIL…
It's an annual pilgrimage, the Turning of the Fagus, and it brings people from the cities and into the mountains. That was us as the end of May approached, and with it the end of the autumn of 2025.

Join us for a walk to view the fagus, to follow a rough trail to a mountain lake and to a cold weather camp by the waters of the Tyenna River.

‘Wreath’

Limited Edition

The Twisted Lakes in Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain Wilderness region.

I worked on this one at Christmas time, while everyone was away and I was holed up in my home, desperately trying to finish the 32 works I had slated to show in my 2025 Untamed exhibition.

With the show opening on the 4th of January I was squeezed for time but still finding joy in the work even if the holiday was going on without me.

Perhaps somehow, the Christmas mood managed to sneak its way onto this one… the naming of it was never in question, it somehow named itself.

‘Islet’

Limited edition

A baby tree sprouts from an islet of moss in the bark of an ancient King Billy pine. It’s these ancient forest giants I fear for the most in these wildfires in the North.

I’ve completed a little video that walks through the show you can find it on my YouTube channel. Look for The Elm & the Raven…

It’s most pleasing to know that these pieces I put so much love into creating, still light me up when I see them.

I hope that joy they give me is somehow transmitted to you when you see them. They are better, in the flesh, so to speak, but being able to share them in any format is a lovely thing.

Islet is available directly from the gallery or online.

THE OUTDOOR MUSEUM
A roof of galvanised iron faded by the sun, walls of brick, sash windows and the symmetrical formalism of the Georgian style signify the age of this old house in Battery Point, Hobart.

There are many houses like this in Tasmania. This one is in good condition, having been renovated at some time in the not-distant past and maintained in good order.

That is the 1250m of kunanyi-Mt Wellington off in the distance with the 120m high cliffline of the Organ Pipes visible, a wall of vertical dolerite oozed out of the earth somewhere in deep time.

Battery Point is an early Hobart locale on the banks of the Derwent. For those who read stories of a city’s history in its buildings, who discern tales of wealth and decline, industrial change and aspiration in the its architectural styles, Battery Point offers an eclectic collection spanning the late Nineteenth Century through Art Deco to Modernism. Battery Point is a place where you walk, not drive.
