For the start we want to take you to South Tyrol with some impressive castles. There are many castles in the area. Because of the alpine landscape settlements, farming and traffic were concentrated in the valleys. The castles were built by feudal lords to exercise control over parts of the valleys, to collect tolls for transported goods and as symbols of power.
