Among one of the benefits of wearing a big honking Victorian floor length skirt with petticoat just because... Is how if you have to do a number of full turns to go back into a room because you forgot something once again, instead of an irate little stomp and shuffle, you'll be doing some grand sweeps as your skirt goes whoosh and the hems flare out. 💃

With entirely disproportionate effort, I bring you these shitty clips of me trying to show off the green skirt I made a while back, and it unsurprisingly immediately becoming Karvinen Time.

I don't think I've ever posted about how I store my clothes? But here they are, except the jackets and coats. A borderline unmanageable amount for me to wear and care for even though there's not that many items all in all.
I keep them in these open air wardrobe and clothes scaffolds to help them stay fresh and to remember they all exist. 😆 Details in alt text!

As it is an end-of-19th century walking skirt and two very soft fabrics, the proper things would be to add stiffening layer to the bottom part. But I don't have anything useful, and I'm not sure what kind of material should I get to keep things both natural and gently washable on occasion. I wonder, will wearing a petticoat or two counter the flimsiness or am I making a big mistake...

Yesterday I managed to interline and thread-mark the rest of my big skirt pieces. Tried a new method (for me) – laying the cut piece of fashion fabric very smoothly on the uncut lining, basting on the seamlines together and then cutting out the lining piece. The contemporary method would be to heat-fuse two layers together, but I'm curious what can I achieve with older methods.
Whenever I'l have time next it'll be pockets, waistband and putting together. #HistoryBounding #LaumaŠuj #Sewing
As the most sane person, I've spent months complaining that I don't have enough linen shifts... and then I spent yesterday 6 hours on the floor cutting out and threadmarking wool walking skirt. And now my whole body is sore muscles. #sewing #HistoryBounding #LaumaŠuj

But then, I do also know a lot of people enjoy seeing sewing content from me, as I like to explain what I'm doing and why, and the satisfying bits of it tickle many people. I sort of get it, as I like to watch costumers and sewists myself, but...

In any case. I'm not planning on doing much sewing soon, and don't feel like reposting old content, so if you'd like to look at sewing from me, I invite you do click the hashtags #Sewing, #HistoricalFashion and #HistoryBounding and "Browse posts from..." with my username, so you can see as much of the old stuff that has been federated to you!

Also, though not the best photo possible: Did wear the soutache covered skirt I spent ages on, and it's quite nice! The fabric is very pleasantly stiff and sturdy, and the skirt flares out nicely even with just one dinky petticoat under it. The soutache, despite being so thick and heavy, moves and drapes nicely when worn. It's a little bit shorter than the petticoat I wore, but. Anyway. Skirt done, yay!

Dear history bounders, please advice on where to get a lasting pair of black calf high leather boots with sheepwool or similar natural warming material inside?
It will have to last snow, ice and salt, so I guess, leather soles won't be appropriate. Wide calfs. EU or EEZ.

Waistband on and mostly finished. Leaving one end open until I've put the hooks and bars on.

The thing where almost every Victorian skirt has an extremely snug waistband but the back skirt panels always have excess, even when the front and sides are fitted with darts? It makes letting out or taking in the skirt so much easier, 10/10.
