Music was ubiquitous throughout #Mesopotamian history, playing important roles in both religious and secular contexts. Mesopotamia is of particular interest to scholars because evidence from the region—which includes #artifacts, #artisticDepictions, and #writtenRecords—places it among the earliest well-documented cultures in the #historyOfMusic. The discovery of a bone #wind #instrument dating to the 5th millennium BCE provides the earliest evidence of music culture in Mesopotamia.

I just signed this petition. Not quite a big fan of jazz - not quite an active listener, although I do like the sound of it (I mean, what's not to like about jazz, really). There is a piece of history that's threatened to be lost, however, and if that happens, it would be a sad moment for world culture. The #78rpmrecords are a part of the immaterial heritage of the world, and as discs wear out, saving them digitally is of utmost importance. Hope they succeed.
