This guy with the funny hat is Katō Kiyomasa. We recognized him as we recently saw a likely identical statue in Kumamoto!

Kiyomasa was born in Nagoya and was one of the builders of Nagoya Castle. As a result of his military successes, he received land and Kumamoto Castle, which he rebuilt. Many of the walls of both castles still stand today, although most of the buildings are gone.

Who's seen The Boy and The Heron? These are higonokami - traditional Japanese pocket knives; no-frills just very high quality craftsmanship. It's hard to read, but the knife on the left has the characters 一刀流 (ittoryu), "sword-style". It's made with the same bi-metal construction as a katana. These are just like Mahito's knife which plays a key role in one of those scenes that hardly advances the plot but adds tremendous dalliance and whimsy. #一刀流 #肥後守 #higonokami #TheBoyAndTheHeron #Miyazaki

This traditional Japanese pocket knife (higonokami, 肥後守) is so simple. There is no locking mechanism. But the makers still took the time to craft the blade using san mai sword-style construction. It is extremely sharp.

Ça m'a pris un peu de temps mais mes #higonokami on une véritable émouture de type sabre.
Pas évident sur ces lames forgées à la va vite par l'artisan, mais l'avantage c'est qu'on a pas peur de les reprendre.
Juste à la pierre des Pyrénées et au cuir.
