Presentation to colleagues this Friday, so I’m setting up my AV and computer systems now. Regardless, I expect Zoom to want to update at least three times between now and then. #HigherEd #HigherEdPolicy #AIPolicy #AcademicHonesty #ThanksZoom

Interesting piece 1️⃣ by Francie Diep in The Chronicle this morn on how critique of US News may help 'fix' it...

...and an equally interesting response 2️⃣ from our head of data, David Levy, on why US News' goals and any perceived fixes may be too big a gap to bridge 👇

How Criticism Actually Strengthens Rankings

Prominent law and medical schools have announced they will no longer cooperate with U.S. News. Two researchers discuss what that might mean for the rankings.

Hi, I’m Carly, Head of Uni & Media Relations at Degreechoices.com.

I’m British and new to US #highered so you can usually find me asking unusual questions, then diving down the rabbit holes they open and hoping you’ll come with me.

I’m especially interested in how #higheredpolicy affects future economic mobility for graduates, university culture for staff and faculty, and social science in general.

Say hi if you’re in #highered and share your follow recommendations!

https://wonkhe.com/blogs/part-time-higher-education-needs-ambition/ Interesting views from our VC and that of Birbeck. It's certainly true the biggest shocks to part time study have come as unintended consequences. It does need specific policy approaches instead #HigherEdPolicy #parttimestudy
Part-time higher education needs ambition | Wonkhe

Tim Blackman, Vice Chancellor of The Open University and David Latchman, Vice Chancellor of Birkbeck University of London, call for a fresh start for part-time higher education.

My recent #HigherEdPolicy observation is that a class of leader will do all they can to invent positions to absolve themselves their now-former list of duties.

Always pay attention to their justification: did they pass the duties onto someone based on the individual's traits or do they offer a logical, organizational need for the position? It will say a lot about the leadership.

If You Read One Thing Today… As the financial pressures on colleges grow, research points to the painful effects of college closures. https://bit.ly/3U1wYio

Today, I'm reading this article on the "enrollment cliff" by Kevin Carey. It mainly walks the well-trodden paths of this narrative. But he makes 2 interesting and interrelated points: 1) leaders will have a scarcity mindset and see everything through ROI; 2) financially motivated vocationalization of majors at broadly accessible colleges will further divide opportunities by class and income. https://www.vox.com/the-highlight/23428166/college-enrollment-population-education-crash #highered #highereducation #higheredreads #higheredpolicy
