[9548] - 2019;

Back to high-speed (I miss working in that niche indeed!). Something from the "pre-COVID" era. I made such a mess with this!
What's fascinating about high-speed, specially if you work without any aiding tools (like Gates or triggers), is that the experimentation becomes surreal somewhat, and the more you work with it, the more your eyes and hands get synchronized, and the more amazing moments you'd discover the more shots you make; and it gets wild with water specifically.
I've stopped posting shot info but for those interested or whatever:
- Canon EOS 7D.
- Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM.
- f/6.3.
- 1/8000 sec.
- ISO200.
- 580EXII, 430EXII.

[9715] - 2019

Part of a series I've made back in 2019, called it "Fire and Water". It was fun (and messy). Despite using the maximum shutter speed here (1/8000 sec), apparently this wasn't enough to freeze the motion of the water droplets - they were ejected from a syringe. It is such situations that call for working with "flash duration" instead of the typical HSS (or high-speed) mode in the speedlites. Unfortunately, back then my knowledge was limited, and till this very day, I don't think I can work with such method.

Specs for those who care about them:
- Canon EOS 7D.
- Canon EOS 100mm f/2.8 Macro.
- F/5.6.
- 1/8000 sec.
- ISO 200.

OK, back to my archival posts (since I couldn't shoot anything new), with some high speed from 2017. I think I've placed a piece of aluminum foil, sprinkled some water on it and started to bounce a ball. Back then I didn't have much except for one speedlite (and definitely it is better to work with at least 2 when doing high-speed shots).

Something from 2019, when I was experimenting with die and water in high-speed. In this post, this is the first time I use a filter from Pixelfed. I'm trying to compensate for the dull colors, as my images are usually saved in Adobe 1998 color space and it seems Pixelfed doesn't identify this space so things are pulled back to sRGB space, which makes the colors appear dull and less saturated here. This said, I'm having some ideas at the back of my head and will try to take some new pics soon (also shot some with my phone so I might process those as well, we'll see).

اِسْتِرْفاع (levitation) - 4; OK, the last one in this mini levitation series.
After this shot, I've started experimenting with stroboscopic flash. For this shot here I just wanted to break the monotony of my usual edits and tried my hand with tone-splitting, but I'm not sure I do like this version though.

اِسْتِرْفاعْ (levitation) - 2 ; Still with the series. I'm hoping that I can work some more with my camera. If I can't make it, then I'm back to archival posts after this series is over.

اِسْتِرْفاعْ levitation) - 1; This levitation mini-series, part of the bigger series of playing with die in high speed, consists of like 4 shots starting with this one. Bear with me, I know they're kinda boring, but all my attempts to add some action, like water splashes, failed.

مُـضَـعْـضَـعْ (shaky); OK, at this level here, I've turned off the background flash, and replaced the white mist filter with black mist filter (which would create halos around the object, but maybe more visible in upcoming shots). Despite being like a stable shot but this is actually a high-speed one, with 1/8000 sec of shutter speed, for a moment just before the die jump up in the air after knocking them from under the desk with a hammer. To me, I find this shot is even more interesting than those coming up, because capturing motion is easy, but capturing that moment between stillness and motion, is not that easy (and often requires an automated process with special triggers, while I'm doing the work manually here).
