The world’s first vaccine trial against elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus (EEHV) – a leading cause of death in young Asian elephants – is safe and triggers a strong virus-fighting immune response, according to an international team led by the University of Surrey, Chester Zoo and the Animal and Plant Health Agency.

Das könnte ein echter Gamechanger sein, denn bislang muss ein vollständiger Impfschutz häufig erst über mehrere Impfdosen und damit Wochen oder Monate aufgebaut werden. It appears and triggers herpes reanimation just before it also turns on an antiviral immune response. The latter apparently comes too little too late.
