Well THAT movie had some shit to say about religion.

As a horror movie, it works because of the minimal sets, practical effects, and the (mostly) great performances of the cast. Hugh Grant in particular is kinda terrifying. The movie relies on building tension and atmosphere rather than jump scares, and the (sadly predictable, at least by this Owlbear) revelations are earned, if a bit foreshadowed.

As a religious statement, well… it's not the same statement as the exorible movie God's Not Dead (2014), but its only marginally less 101level theology/philosophy.

Fortunately, unlike the GND blasphemy, this one doesn't rely on you buying into the message for its success. It's just … sayin' stuff while it's trying to scare you.

It's not great, but it's not terrible. I give it 2 out of 4 paws. Worth a watch, but don't think too hard.
