Another coat of arms for one of my RP characters, Camille "Rosy" Grey, a black hat hacker who specializes in covert entry and uses drones to case her target location.

Usually I have some kind of in-universe justification for giving my characters a CoA, but this time I got nothing. I just like making these.

A fleur-de-lis is a heraldic symbol in the shape of a lily with three petals. In fact, the name is French for “lily flower.”

Happy Fleur de lis day to those who celebrate.

I'm only incidentally familiar with solarpunk, although I've liked the bits I have seen. The banner here is a nice bit of #heraldry.

It might seem excessive to have bought a hefty, 600+ page book just for one entry, but I saw this reference to an Irish Buchanan crest years ago online, and then found it impossible to relocate, so $20 well spent I’d say! #BookSky #heraldry

📜 The hidden Viking continuity is written into the Lovibond coat of arms:

• Shield in old line: Three silver rings (the sacred oath rings).
• Crest in new line: A boar's head "upon a rock proper"—a raw, unhewn natural rock symbolizing the open-air Thing site.

From 10th-century legal guardians to 19th-century innovators. This lineage seems to have kept its origin alive for about 1,000 years.

Proposal for a new derivation of the name Lovibond

📜 Re-evaluating the surname Lovibond!

The known textbook theory of "love-bond" (makes little sense for medieval landed gentry). A new research points to the #Viking Age in Norfolk's Danelaw.

The possible origin? The Old Norse Lófa-bóndi:
• Lófi: Flat palm, ritually placed on sacred silver rings or a rock to swear oaths at the Thing courts.
• Bóndi: Free, weapon-bearing squire/judge.

A Lófa-bóndi was therefore an "Oath-Sworn Legal Surety".

I'm going to build a set of 12 knight miniatures with historically correct horses, armour and weapons for jousting, circa 1450.

But I'm going to have fun with the heraldry and have whatever medieval knights I like because I'm weird.

(Suggestions welcome but it's pretty niche.)
