Hens have finally arrived on the croft! We picked up four ex-commercial hens from British Hen Welfare Trust on the 2nd March, 2025. Of course the weather has been less than welcoming and I can imagine these ladies wondering where the hell they have come to with nosey ducks, noisy geese and wind blowing a hoolie!
We've also got some Light Sussex chicken eggs in the incubator. They should be hatching in 2-3 weeks.

Avez-vous déjà vu des poules mouillées, légèrement agacées de ne pas pouvoir rentrer dans la maison. Notez la synchronisation des pattes dans ka photo du bas et l'air dédaigneux en partant x)

Aujourd'hui, Méroflède, une de mes merveilleuses rouquines, a rejoint Galswynthe pour inspecter le salon depuis les salles mouillées de la terrasse. Je les imagine bien se dire qu'on est pas sympa de les laisser se tremper les plumes dehors dans le vent quand même !

Chickens got a new coop yesterday that should handle the winter. We fell behind schedule winter proofing their regular home so we had to improvise a bit. Keeping around 15C inside when it's -15 outside currently should be enough for the winter. #HensOfMastodon #chickens

Went to feed the chickens this morning and one was missing. Found it on the roof, confused and apparently too afraid of heights to jump down again 😂 had to herd it through the barn to a section with more shelves so it could get down #chickens #HensOfMastodon

While Mom, Dad and the Boy were sitting on the terrace, I sneaked into the house and found the perfect resting spot on our indoor bench. 😊
