Pretty modern work from Konitz -- recorded in Rome in 1968, with a French rhythm section of Martial Solal on piano, Henry Texier on bass, and Daniel Humair on drums. The presence of Solal especially gives the session an edge -- as Kontiz drifts into Solal's moody, introspective mode of the time -- playing long, angular, sparely-hung solos that rank with some of his most challenging work of the 60s. Titles include "Collage On Standards", "Duet For Saxophone & Drums, & Piano", "Anthropology", "Roman Blues", and "Lover Man" - Dusty Groove

Varech by Henri Texier, released on Eurodisc in 1977.

An early pioneer of “world music,” Henri Texier takes his double bass to uncharted territory on Varech, blending avant-garde jazz with Celtic, African, Indian, and Middle Eastern elements for a singular statement that’s as funky as it is groundbreaking. Texier cut his teeth playing with world jazz legend Don Cherry in the 60’s and has also worked with greats Donald Byrd, Bud Powell, Dexter Gordon and Jef Gilson. The bass is obviously a major focus here, but Texier’s voice is also spectacular. “Les “Là-bas,” “L’Elephant,” and “Terre-basse” are highlights, but a full listen is recommended.

Today's random #Discogs choice Henri Texier and Varech 2018 reissue. I absolutely love this. Essentially a double bass jazz man, but throws in flute, oud, and other fab instruments. Favourite track L'ultime Danse.

Complete Communion is a 1966 album by American jazz composer Don Cherry, his debut as a bandleader and his first release on Blue Note Records.
