Amusing bit in the Amsterdam history I'm reading by Ben Coates, The Invention of Amsterdam:
"I walk to the counter and buy a ticket, then join a group of other visitors waiting to be allowed inside. Faux-cheerful staff in Heineken-green bow ties issue me with a green plastic armband and encourage me to post on social media about my #heinekenexperience. I join a group of about a dozen visitors, who seem to be roughly 50 per cent American and 50 per cent British. ‘Are you ready to get excited?!’ shouts one of the bow-tied young tour guides. ‘YES!’ the group cheers in response. ‘Well, I’m about to get you even more excited!’ bow tie replies. The crowd cheers again and loud dance music starts playing, and I start to wish I’d brought something stronger than Heineken to drink."
