3/5: The final book of the Emily Wilde trilogy starts as preppy and witty as the two previous books but it soon takes a darker turn when the curse takes hold and things go from bad to worse. There’s a curse, there’s death, there’s miraculous recovery, there’s daring missions to slay monsters, save people, the family business. Don’t get me wrong, this was a good book, entertaining and funny. But the ending felt a bit like a cop-out and I sometimes felt like there was just a little too much “good heavens” etc. But as a closing book of a trilogy, a solid story.

The Emily Wilde books have been a favorite this year. I’m enjoying the cozy and academic vibe, but certainly am not left bored with all that is happening. Wendell has to be my new fictional crush, and I find Shadow and Poe heartwarming creatures.
