We recently had solar panels and a #HeatPump installed (by our landlord) at our house. So I am paying more attention to energy consumption for heating (just when we are probably reducing it)...
First step is to be visiting the Electricity Maps website https://app.electricitymaps.com/map/zone/NL/live/fifteen_minutes?signal=electricity-price
This can be somewhat addictive to revisit and then you notice weird things like the Netherlands apparently having more installed solar capacity than France. 1/2 #SolarPower #WindPower #GreenEnergy

Heat pumps for all new homes and plug-in solar in green tech drive

Solar panels that can be plugged in at home could be available to buy in supermarkets in the coming months.

I just got my feed in tariff payment for the winter (mid august to mid march)

It covers my total power bill for the same period

Summer is going to be even better

At every step on our low-carbon journey there have been lots of people saying it won't work.

This tech is so good that the subsidies keep getting reduced - which is fine - the tech keeps getting cheaper and better.

Yesterday discovered a fault in our heat pump system (installed august last year)

It had been making a gurgling noise, so I checked the pressure, it was low so I filled it.

noticed it was low because of a slow leak

Called octopus today, an engineer arrived on site a few hours later

One compression joint needed tightening

Annoying to have a fault, but it's a bit of the plumbing that could have failed on any new system

Very happy with the after care from octopus

Rising oil and gas prices? Engie in Belgium started their Happy Hours program today. When the forecast predicts surplus solar power, your electricity will be free for a few hours, to charge the #EV or load up the #HeatPump buffer tank.
Even if there are no solar panels in the house, and without switching to fully dynamic pricing. The prerequisite is a smart meter with real-time reading.
And we are just barely out of Winter.

I’ve had a heat pump installed and now my house is heated without using any gas. Great!

I often debate about #DIY or buy with larger projects. Right now I'm debating taking on putting in a new heat pump by myself or hiring it done.

After installing a mini split by mysel, I feel like a heat pump isn't much different. But I would also have to spend a significant amount of time in my dirty / cramped attic space putting together a new ducted air handler.

Will wait for the quote to decide.

Oil is 19th century technology that provides funding for conflict prone parts of the world. Those conflicts affect the whole world every time sparks fly.

We have 21st energy technology that does not fund global conflicts and doesn’t pollute the air we breathe. We need to drop the shackles of the oil lobby and invest in building out 21st century technology. It is a matter of national and international security.

Ditch the dinosaur juice, it is simply not of this era anymore.
