@Ruth_Mottram ๐Ÿ’ฏ agree that big oil has massively delayed and buried TONS of sustainable tech and materials innovations (and this is echoed in many other industries). Where I respectfully disagree is that more EVs earlier and better would have made much difference, particularly with the LI batteries. Efficient, free/cheap, expanded public transportation and walk/bike/scooter-able cities and villages would have a much greater impact. And that's possible right now by adapting policy that's good for people and the planet.
Urban design and planning can either destroy and divide, or regenerate and nurture the environment and community.
And then: more EVs just means more dependencies on the ruling class. More waste, more isolation, and until they implent a whole new battery sitation, a humanitarian and environmental disaster. It's greenwashed capitalism, designed to make us feel good while continuing the same destructive systems.
Converting existing cars to biodiesel combined with emissions filters I think is a better alternative. Again, we're not waiting for Big Tech to create something to save us. Converting cars is #opensource knowledge. ๐Ÿ˜‰ It needs training for mechanics on conversion, facilities to produce and systems to collect the fuel, training for making the filters, and social will. Seattle had biodiesel stations long before I left, which was over a decade ago (I've been in Europe since then, so I've seen both sides of the coin).
I've also heard of rural communities implement this, although I can't remember where... Bad Tara... I need to look into that. We need more of it! #HealthyCommunities making recycled fuel and shaking off the bilionaire chains! Creating community based, regenerative work instead of stripping our planet to line pockets.
Plus an added layer of #disasterresilience ๐Ÿ’ช

As a former elected Board member, I support this 100%. One problem with an elected Board is that it doesn't assure that the needed competencies are available at the Board level. Over time the OSI added more and more appointed Board members to address this problem, but it is time to reconsider the full process #FOSS #OSI #OpenSource #HealthyCommunities

What Makes a Healthy Creative Community? (Signs, Red Flags, and Real Belonging)

Not all groups provide genuine community, and many can feel unwelcoming. For neurodivergent individuals or introverts, belonging is crucial for artistic expression. Key indicators of a supportive community include kindness, accessibility, and inclusivity. Trust your instincts; seek spaces that nurture your authentic self and foster creativity without fear of judgment.

Last month, we shared our harvests with families and many children enjoyed healthy green meals. At (EYNU) we believe greens are natureโ€™s medicine They fight hidden hunger, build strong bodies, and give mothers and children better health.
Some students learned how to grow their own food, and even left gardens thriving at home before returning to school Together, weโ€™re growing a healthier, greener future for our communities

"Reconnecting people with their food, and re-teaching people how to grow their own food, has the potential to positively and permanently change the world. It is possible to grow food that is fresher, healthier, and more diverse than what is currently found in the grocery stores..." https://www.onecommunityglobal.org/large-scale-gardening/
