Snagged complete set of of Marshall Cavendish #CarMaintenance and #Motoring partwork "On The Road" from 1978-1981 (in 10 binders)
If you are #GenX you may remember your dad buying at least some of these if he was into #cars (although to get the entire partwork would have cost about Β£300 (2026 money) in total, so relatively few people actually got whole set of 140)
These were sold not only in #UK but across #Commonwealth countries where folk drive on the left, one cool thing is all units are #metric first (with Imperial equivalents added afterwards)
Fair play to the previous owner, it looks like they did definitely make use of the section on changing #HeadGasket in #BritishLeyland engine π
Finished up the head gasket job on a 2015 #Jetta, flushed the coolant and oil.. got er down off the jacks... and what do you know. She runs! No codes!
Ended up about $500 in parts and fluids overall.
Some rust related aches, some wonky tool paths (thanks, VW), minor fretting with timing the engine - but in the end, these #SOHC engines are pretty simple, fun little learning experience, and beat the (heavy) snowfalls.

Does this need a head gasket?
I dunno, but hopefully about to find out. Misfire codes on cylinders 2 & 3, consumes oil and coolant.
Topped the coolant, about to change the oil, then will check compression and change the spark plugs. See what we can see..
Coming at this half-blind of course, so prob doing some wrench learning this afternoon
