A few thoughts this Friday evening on the past week’s dumpster fire of fascist headlines in the United States:
Once again #HCR laying down some hard truths about the state of #USPolitics
Though, once again, this analysis feels a bit like too little too late.
The elected officials that support the pumpkin king are already all-in on the direction we're going. They've had ample time and opportunities to stop it and done nothing. They're either cowards, fools, or power hungry assholes… probably a mix of all 3, depending on the moment. The US is no longer "slipping into authoritarianism", we are here. We have some remnants and trappings of democracy, but there is no official line on a chart we can point to. It’s just a general set of criteria about the state of government, and by most of those measures, the US federal government is authoritarian now.
