After reading about bee death in southern Sweden and in the US, this article about Romania haystacks felt extra important. I can imagine it is all bleepin' hard work, but I think we need a bit more - or a lot more - entymology love in the world.

"Haystacks, Morning, Éragny," Camille Pissarro, 1899.

The great Impressionist Pissarro was best known for his scenes of contemporary urban life, but he enjoyed country life as well. Like his friend Monet, he undertook to paint the haystacks near his home in different lights and in different times of the year.

The summertime atmosphere is palpable here...one can easily imagine the dew on the grass and the sound of the leaves rustling in the wind.

"Haystacks: Snow Effect," Claude Monet, 1891.

In 1890, Monet persuaded a local farmer to leave out two haystacks over the fall and winter so he could paint them. He ended up producing nearly 30 canvases of the haystacks, in all sorts of light, at all times of the day, working mostly in plein air but also doing studio work as well.

I like the simplicity of this; reminds me of my country childhood.
