Well, there are two upsides to this: a nice building has been preserved and one has another nice photo spot. That said, I still have mixed feelings to what the city of #Antwerp did with the #Havenhuis. To quote someone whom I showed my photos: "It is as if a giant extra-terrestrial ship has landed and laid a giant egg..." The Havenhuis is a former #firestation that was used until the late nineties for the #harbour of Antwerp nearby. The lower section is a replica of a former Hanseatic house (neo-traditional style) and got protected status. Since it could not be demolished, Port of Antwerp decided to write out a competition to which an Iraqi-British architect, Zaha Hadid, won.
