Auckland from Rangitoto. Waitangi Day holiday in 2016 found me up the Rangitoto volcano in the Hauraki Gulf just outside of Auckland, New Zealand. I'd been up to the summit doing some Ham Radio operating for 'Summits On The Air" (SOTA) I stopped to snap this photo of Auckland from around half way down to the ferry, Capturing the CBD, the Sky Tower and the Harbour Bridge as well as several of the extinct volcanoes in the area. #Auckland #Rangitoto #newzealand #aotearoa #photography #Photo #Sony #Volcano #Hauraki #HaurakiGulf #sota #hamradio

It’s time the Government listened. The new Hauraki Gulf Protection Bill still allows bottom trawling in large areas of the marine park. And a recent amendment would see commercial fishing in protected areas 🤯

Overwhelmingly people living around Tīkapa Moana - The Hauraki Gulf want bottom trawling gone. Over 80% of people have said so. Many turned out for a flotilla with @greenpeace and Forest and Bird in March last year calling for the same #BanBottomTrawling

Last year Greenpeace and the HGA handed in a petition signed by over 36,000 people calling for a ban on bottom trawling. There is no place for this destructive fishing method in a marine park, where species from snapper to dolphins are struggling.

Today our friends in the Hauraki Gulf Alliance told the Environmental Select Committee exactly why we want to ban destructive bottom trawling from the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.
