#Hannaford says no food waste from any of its stores will be sent to #landfills anymore

Hannaford said it partnered with Agri-Cycle, a food waste recycling company based in Scarborough, to turn food unsuitable for human & animal consumption into #energy.

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — "Hannaford on Tuesday announced that each of its 183 stores donates or diverts all food at risk of going to waste, sending no food at all to landfills.

Hannaford said in a release that it achieved the milestone with a "multi-pronged approach focused on first preventing #FoodWaste through strategic product ordering and management at the store level."

[Thread] So, hubby did some research and discovered that an odious #SiliconValley group [#OpenPhilanthropy] has been bashing #Hannaford. While #HannafordSupermarkets aren't perfect, they are very inclusive and welcoming to #GBLTQ folks, donate #Food to #FoodBanks, and make sure any #FoodWaste becomes #compost or #AgroEnergy.

"The parent company of Stop & Shop and Hannaford grocery stores has issued a statement saying they were recently impacted by a 'cybersecurity issue within its U.S. network.'

"Ahold Delhaize USA said Friday that immediately upon detecting the issue, they began an investigation with assistance from external cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement.

"'Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue,' the company said. 'This includes taking some systems offline to help protect them. This issue and subsequent mitigating actions have affected certain Ahold Delhaize USA brands and services including a number of pharmacies and certain e-commerce operations.'

"That reportedly impacted some stores' ability to accept payments by debit or gift cards. Hannaford's website also wasn't working all weekend or on Monday. Other stores reported issues with product deliveries as a result of the cybersecurity issue.

"All of the company's stores remain open and are continuing to serve customers, Ahold Delhaize USA said. They also said they will continue to take actions to further protect their systems.

"'The security of our customers, associates and partners is a top priority,' the company said. 'We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused customers and partners.'

"Stop & Shop has 93 locations in New York and 47 in New Jersey. There are 52 Hannaford locations in New York."

The Milk with Dignity Month of Action has wrapped up! Throughout October, farmworkers and allies held fifteen actions at Hannaford Supermarkets in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont to connect with customers and build support for Milk with Dignity. In the final week, farmworkers held pickets around Vermont in Bennington, Brattleboro, and Burlington, and across the Connecticut River in West Lebanon, New Hampshire. Students and youth swelled the ranks of the picketers, with participation from college students from Dartmouth and Bennington Colleges, high schoolers from the Putney School in southern Vermont, and even elementary school students from the Sustainability Academy in Burlington.
