In 2000, three guys, including Kenji @Kenji and myself, did a handmade jeans exhibit in Tokyo. We had a few prizes for visitors to win, including a custom-made pair of Eureka jeans. The lucky winner was Yosuke, one of the participants in our little denim reunion the other night.
I was pleasantly surprised that he came wearing the pair I made for him 23 years ago! It's amazing that he still had these after all that time!
He's been wearing them off and on over the years, and they're showing a really nice subtle vintage fade.
Pic 3 is of when I was sewing them 23 years ago, and pic 4 is a banner we made for the event.
The exhibit was quite a success and lots of fun. I'd love to do it again sometime!

Found some really nice denim in a tiny fabric shop in Osaka today. Right-hand twill, about 11 oz. I like denim with plain white selvedge. Perfect for 1870s to 1930s waist overalls!

When I make multiple pairs simultaneously in different sizes, I like to stamp the size on the back of every piece so they don't get mixed up. I used to write it with chalk, but it would often rub off before assembling the pieces, so I thought I might just as well use a stamp. And then I realized it kinda looks cool.

The crotch rivet on the waist overalls in my previous post. The rivet is flattened and dimpled, which further expands it on top of the burr, adding extra strength.

Another pair of waist overalls I finished recently. These are set around 1916, shortly after the introduction of chainstitch machines and the addition of belt loops.
They feature some of the most beautiful left-hand twill denim I've worked with.

I finally managed to go home to Tokyo the other day and bring back my handpress, rivets and buttons, and finish up some pairs I made over the last several months.
These three pairs are set in the early 1910s, before the introduction of chainstitch machines.
