Anbernic RG Rotate now available for $83 and up (handheld game console with flip-out display)

The Anbernic RG Rotate is a handheld game console with mediocre specs that should be good enough for retro gaming, but which may struggle with some newer games. But it’s still an interesting little handheld for two reasons: its flip-out display makes the RG Rotate a very portable option for handheld gaming, and it’s pretty cheap.

Anbernic introduced the handheld earlier this year, and now the […]

Now you can run Steam games in Linux on some handhelds that ship with Android

The line between PC and mobile devices is getting blurrier all the time. Apple’s MacBook Neo uses an Arm-based processor made for iPhones… and still manages to outperform many mid-range Windows laptops with Intel or AMD processors. Qualcomm is making some of the fastest laptop chips available for Windows PCs today. And emulation software allows you to run some x86 apps and games on Arm-based […]

Handheld game console maker AYN responds to RAMageddon with price hike, storage downgrade

The rising costs of RAM and storage are driving up the cots of devices that use RAM and storage chips. Makers of laptops, desktops, smartphones, tablets, and gaming handhelds have raised prices or discontinued products in response.

One of the latest examples? Handheld game console maker AYN has announced two changes to some of its Android-powered handhelds. Moving forward, the Ayn Odin 3 and […]

GAMEMT E5 ModX handheld console’s detachable controller also works with phones

Lilbits: Anbernic’s unusual handheld, reMarkable’s next tablet, and SteamOS 3.8

Anbernic is a Chinese company that has made a lot of handheld game consoles over the years. But a short video making the rounds shows an upcoming handheld from the company that’s unlike anything else we’ve seen from Anbernic.

At first it looks like a tiny phone with a small square touchscreen display. But then the person holding it flicks the screen so that it rotates 90 degrees while it […]

Dead Cells was ported to tiny #linux retro handhelds. This took a lot of work in recompiling the game's code to arm64, patching the game to reduce graphics calls and optimizing its assets for the reduced specs. Really impressive things are happening in this world.

One killer feature of the #3ds, that I've yet to see replicated anywhere else, is the note-taking applet. You'd go to the home menu, tap the pencil, and you'd be able see a screenshot of the game you were playing and write/draw anything.
Having to pause my game and whip out my phone to take a note takes me out of it significantly.
