At least one of my #defcon talks has been accepted by the #hamradiovillage

The topic is on defying censorship via radio.

This particular individual is also interested in organizing something like Ham Radio Village from #defcon but at a local, similar but smaller convention. I honestly have no idea how to get started or help with something like that. If anyone knows anything about that sort of event, Iโ€™m all ears.

#HamRadioVillage #AmateurRadio #HamRadio

I still have a few #hamradiovillage stickers I can give out. #aprs is beaconing. Find me for a sticker!

Where ham radio and infosec collide, you'll find the #hamradiovillage .

Come see me if you'd like to talk about how a centuries old technology is being used in the modern digital age.

For anyone wanting to meet up face to face, you'll probably find me around the #hamradiovillage at #defcon31

Look for the middle aged socially awkward person.

Who all is going to #hackersummercamp this year? I'm hoping to spend time at the #hamradiovillage booth, and looking forward to checking in on #blackgirlshack

You?

thus far, while working with the #sbitxv2 , I must say, I'm confused.

I normally use a R-Pi for my ham stuff, with an IC-7100, so FT8(wsjtx)/FLDigi/etc, is nothing new to me.

But, the UI is just confounding.

I managed to make a QSO in the web interface, but have no ability to export it for QRZ or LoTW.

Additionally, the receive quality on the same antenna with the same tuner, etc, is significantly reduced.

I still have high hopes it'll work well for a #sota or #pota rig, but it's gonna need significant work to get right.

First off, I've gotta figure out how to get FLRig working with it, then figure out what settings rigctld will need to use, in order to make ardop and pat/winlink going to exchange #winlink messages.

Toggling between modes is also strange.

I'm sure that folks who are familiar with the UI will do far better than I am doing, but for right now, I'm struggling.

(Sorry for all the #hamradio stuff lately, mentally ramping up for the #hamradiovillage at #defcon31 next week)

Ham Radio Village (HRV) DEF CON 31ยฎ CFP

We are looking for presentations, demonstrations, experiments, discussions, and anything else related to amateur radio that you would like to share with the world at DEF CON 31! If you have something that you've been wanting to share about amateur radio, now is the time! Even if you think your topic is "weird", someone at DEF CON will take interest in it! Presentation slots are typically 30 minutes or one hour in total, therefore including a Q&A that typically follows and may take 5-10 minutes based on the number of questions following an presentation. If you have a topic that warrants additional time, let us know in the form and we'll get back to you. All those who contribute to the Ham Radio Village are entitled to a benefactor membership within the HRV, which waves membership dues into our happy little ham radio club. Once your submittal is accepted, we'll share additional information with you/may request additional details should they be needed. Badges are available for volunteers upon request, but please note they are distributed primarily in a first come, first serve criteria based on the time of submittal for your application, and the anticipated level of contribution. Because the HRV only receives a limited amount of badges, all those that request a badge may not get one. If you are allocated a badge, you should be notified approx. 1 month before the conference (based on last year's timeline) If you have any questions/concerns, contact one of the village officers on the HRV Discord server: discord.gg/hrv or email the HRV Conference Committee

For those who may look at me and say, 'what is #hamradio all about?'

There's a decent intro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gc3mewa9gE

There's far more niches to the hobby than any one person could enumerate, and I'm thankful to the #defcon and #hamradiovillage community for showing me the hobby, and welcoming me.
