Managing urban development could halve nitrogen pollution in China - Nature Communications

Here the authors demonstrate how managed urbanization in China could halve reactive nitrogen pollution to both the atmosphere and water resources. Investing 61 billion USD could provide 245 billion USD in benefits, while contributing to multiple SDG goals.

Zwischen Feld und Teller 🍽️ sollte es keine Einbahnstraße geben. Zum nachhaltigen Umgang mit Ressourcen gehört es, den #Stickstoffkreislauf wieder zu schließen. 🚽

Eine neue Studie u.a. von @UniHohenheim zeigt: Aus Urin und Fäkalien lässt sich wirkungsvoller und sicherer Dünger machen. #halvenitrogenwaste Medikamentenrückstände ließen sich im gedüngten Kohl demnach höchstens in unbenklichen Mengen nachweisen.

Target 7 important to apply to state of Victoria here in Australia, I think.
I picked up earlier this year hidden deep in the emissions report for the state Government: "The total area of crop cultivation almost doubled, from 1.8 to 3.5 million hectares between 1990 and 2020, while the application of fertilisers increased from just under 50,000 to 328,000 tonnes of nitrogen (an increase of 561%) over this period. "

No explanation why Urea use accelerated so much.

Target 7: "Reduce pollution risks and the negative impact of pollution from all sources, by 2030, to levels that are not
harmful to biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services, considering cumulative effects, including:
reducing excess nutrients lost to the environment by at least half including through more efficient nutrient
cycling and use;" CBD/COP/15/L.25
