Is there a way to work around a lack of NAT loopback / hairpinning with my router?

#networking #natloopback #hairpinning

All I want for Saturnalia is a #PinePhone and a #selfhosting router that can do #hairpinning.

@theprivacyfoundation

It seems incredibly hard to find which routers can do #hairpinning. It's never listed on the tech specs. When I contact router manufacturers support channels, they usually don't even know what hairpinning / NAT loopback is and often disparagingly tell me that it would be a security flaw to offer it.

I just want to self host *and* access my sites at home through my wifi/lan.

A list of cheap, hairpinning capable routers would be awesome...

@theprivacyfoundation #pinephone and a router that can do #hairpinning so I can access my #yunohost server at home as well as when I'm out.

Namely, on #Yunohost (which I otherwise ♥️ ) I ran into:

* No automatic port testing, to let me know why connections weren't getting through (I ended up using port testing websites)

* Nothing to detect/account for a dynamic IP address (ended up using #ddclient to auto-update the IP of my domain name)

* No automatic configuration of #DNSmasq to get around a cheap router that doesn't support #hairpinning. This still stops me from accessing my services from my phone when on my home wifi.
