*Gears* aka UBC Engineers did their usual hack, secretly placing a stripped down VW Beetle where it doesnât belong.
This time though, they thought to be more innovative and eschewed favourites like hanging the car under the Lions Gate Bridge or putting it up on the bridgeâs cross supports.
Unfortunately, it sounds like they made choice thatâs not only a public safety concern due to its precarious placement on a popular climbing rock face, it disrespects Squamish land.
âThe Sáž”wx̱wĂș7mesh Ăxwumixw (Squamish Nation) said in an email statement that the car is located on a sacred site within the nation's territory.
âPlacing or hanging anything upon it is extremely disrespectful both to our People, and to our land,â said the statement.
âWe sincerely hope that in the future, people treat it with the respect it deserves.ââ
