This morning, in our tea room in #Treviso, we have a #Gyokuro tasting scheduled, featuring one of the most precious #Japanese teas.
Gyokuro (玉露), meaning "Jade Dew" or "Jewel Dew" in Japanese, perfectly captures not only the rarity of this tea (only 0.3% of all tea produced in #Japan is Gyokuro) but also its rich, intense aroma, a pure expression of umami.

a few days ago i announce #gyokuro tea tasting. the trigger was, that i run out of my usual supplier & bought some gyokuro in france, which tasted so much stronger and better, but was also double the price. so i wondered and tried to find a new supplier. out of the 8 samples, only one had a similar strong taste as the french (but a seafruit-like, which i don't like) all the other samples were more expensive but as mild in taste as my previous supplier. can't recommend any. only the french. :(

in the following days i'm gonna taste 8 gyokuros ordered from different shops. turned out, the shop i'm currently ordering from is a far cry in taste from a random sample bought in a b&m store. but also only half the price. this will be a (taste-bud-)exciting competition! #tea #gyokuro

Hört man Gyokuro, kommt automatisch der Begriff Umami in den Sinn. Und nicht selten ist das auch die einzige Note, die ein Gyokuro hat. Was schade ist, denn es gibt schon Aromen, die mit einem vollmundigen Umami einhergehen können. Zum Beispiel eine leicht nussige Note passt meiner Meinung nach ungemein gut.
