Spring Knitting: The finishing of things: Short socks

My first short socks of the year. Top down, heel flap, and gusset. They're 100% cotton, a little heavier weight than usual, and a little stiff (for now). They fit my feet exactly, though, so they are very comfortable! Bring it on, summer!

WIP Wednesday

This week's work in progress is the first of a pair of short socks for summer. Socks are still my favorite knitting to bring along when I may be waiting or biding my time. I'm about halfway through the gusset on this sock. Time for some ferry knitting!

Spring Knitting: Short socks

Time for toes! I'm glad this first pair of the year will be finished soon. I have two more 50-gram balls of the DK cotton yarn, but I think I'll use them for wash/dish cloths.

Yarn: Scheepjes Granada Colori, colorway 7481

Knitters adapt.
I weighed, I measured, I ran out of yarn.
I ripped back to knit a band that would be hidden and leave ample yarn for the rest of the cap.
I like the dark, steely blue band, though, so I'll knit enough to show beyond the brim.
Onward.

The first ribbed cap that I knit from a dark gradient dyed blank reached its new owner this weekend.

"It feels so nice. I'm excited to wear it. And I like the colors even more in person."

Appreciation makes gift knitting worthwhile. I don't think I could've chosen better colors for him if I tried!

Four stitches to go. Again.

Nearly finished with the second ribbed cap from a gradient dyed blank, featuring helical knitting beyond the lengths for brims.

1) I knit the last 4 stitches of the ribbed cap. I like it so well that a small part of me wished I hadn't knit it for someone else.
2) I rarely block hats, but this one needs it. Pizza boxes are my favorite material for making blocking tubes.
3) The drying hat's ribbing already looks much tidier.
4) I have enough yarn from the blank for a second, identical ribbed cap. I'm already 5 inches in. Three more to go before crown decreases.

As soon as I finished this orange ribbed cap, I cast on another from a dyed blank in a dark gradient. Once I separated the two strands, I knit the first 4 inches from one strand, then continued in helical knitting with the opposite end of the second strand. I *really* like the way it's turned out. Now that I have a total of 8 inches, I'm ready to start knitting the crown decreases.
