France 24’s headline foregrounds faith and leans on Law-and-Order and Targeted Violence framing. Euphemisms like “targeted violence,” “neutralized,” “assault-style rifle” and praise of “rapid police response” sanitize the horror, recenter policing, and erase systemic drivers (gun policy, veterans’ care, online hate). Demand clearer language. https://www.france24.com/en/americas/20250928-at-least-one-dead-in-shooting-and-fire-at-mormon-church-in-michigan #MediaCritique #GunPolicy
At least four dead in shooting and fire at Mormon church in Michigan

A lone gunman opened fire inside a Mormon church in the US state of Michigan during Sunday services before the building was set on fire. At least four people were killed and several injured before the police shot the gunman.

FRANCE 24
It often feels like this country can’t even agree on what the Second Amendment truly means—or which legal interpretations are actually controlling. One moment, there’s an executive order aiming to ‘protect’ gun rights; the next, we see rulings like the Ninth Circuit’s dismissal of a felon-in-possession conviction for lacking historical precedent under Bruen. Gun policy in the U.S. can feel less like a legal framework and more like a broken compass, pointing in every direction at once. Our justice system has become as irrational and disconnected from the fundamentals as the stock market. Wherever you stand on the issue of guns, this chaos isn’t fair to any defendant or litigant. #gunpolitics #gunpolicy #uspol
The US has less than 5% of global population but 31% of #MassShootings. Why? It's been said before, but I'll say it again: because of our #GunPolicy. If you think that level of death is there price we have to pay in order to own #guns, just say it. I believe that level of death is unacceptable, and most other Americans do, too. We need to change our gun policy.

@w7voa

Never EVER say simply "gun lobby." Say "gun manufacturers' lobby."

That one word makes all the difference. Now you are attacking the industry, which people generally mistrust, not people's guns, which they love.

Proper wording means you can more effectively stake out positions like demands for product liability enforcement, which is opposed by the gun manufacturers, but definitely not gun owners, especially those injured by defective products.

“Asian adults show the highest levels of support for increasing the minimum age to own guns to 21 (71%), as well as for banning assault-style weapons (62%). Black and Asian adults were also the strongest opponents of law allowing so-called concealed carry and of shortening wait periods to buy guns.”

This was in February, that it was reported that the #NRA had bled out a significant number of members (which has to hurt the coffers a bit) so I'm curious as to how that trend has or has not accelerated since:

@JMad17 I'm still reading that piece, and my jaw is still on the floor.

I knew we were frakked but I didn't know we are literally 'old ladies looking through MICROFILM' level of frakked.
