The Operator That Dethroned a King: Python's Walrus Operator Story

How two characters — a colon and an equals sign — caused Python's creator to resign, reshaped open source governance forever, and eventually became one of the language's most elegant features.

I really like this interview with Guido von Rossum, Python creator and original Benevalent Dictator for Life (BDfL) of Python development. The questions keep pushing AI as something formidable to be looking forward to, and most of the answers are either a) AI is not special in many regards; b) not looking forward towards AI development.

JUST RELEASED: Python: The Documentary

Weighing in at 1 hour and 24 minutes, a great watch (and for some, a bit nostalgic). 👍 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ youtu.be/GfH4QL4VqJ0 #python #GuidoVanRossum #doc...

I heard #GuidoVanRossum, shortly after starting his second term as the #Python #BDFL, has hinted at going for a THIRD term. He indicated "there are ways" of accomplishing it.

It could be worse. He could threaten to take over #Greenland by force or impose `import tariffs`.

Today January 31st is the birthday of Guido van Rossum creator of the Python programming language for which he was the benevolent dictator for life 🎉

“Python is an experiment in how much freedom programmers need. Too much freedom and nobody can read another’s code; too little and expressiveness is endangered”

Thank you for your contribution to the FOSS community and Happy Birthday 🎂
