lo, though I travel weary and the signs are few and low
this village seems silicious, flint in auspice and in glow
my hitchhiker they vanished having spoken not a word
and my poor dear chunk of rusty steel prances as though stirred
to hotel bright and cheery here upon a roadside bend
I wend my path cadaverous, my attentions for to mend
in silence gold and welcoming, sweet scents vex midnight bleer
though chill upon my feet the mist does part, I fear I am no seer
room service is as nothing, though the comforters do meet test
and upon the vacant desk I’ve left a c-note as a guest
sweet maiden who awakened me, I led back to their room
sweet master who then followed, did their hair and sent them on
the snakes less sweet I made a nest, for blankets I had plenty
and whispers whispered, as whispers do, but I made my pillows tenty
sweet resting then, and energized, I rose to meet the dawn
thanked their empty desk at last, left notes and wandered on
dear maiden, I hope your slumber has found you truly well
dear master, I’ve loved these ribbons, but on you they’d better still
to room service, by bedfoot find, a basket full of snakes
I strong suspect live birth comes soon, they’ll enjoy some meaty shakes
then whispering I parted – your words I suspect were kind
should I pass again less disarrayed, I’ll work with better mind
to parse your language slow and deep, before I sink me to my sleep
and on my travels a library seek, better then small words to peep
for now, my steel pony quivers, shivers in the iron sun
to travel, we must travel, for our work is never done
