The Revolutionary Method for Starting Seeds

I get a huge sense of achievement when I volunteer at Transition Turriefield (our local community vegetable growing project). Today I was planting.

Planting today

This morning I was planting squashes, pumpkins and courgettes at Turriefield.  It is almost the end of the planting now which is sad for me, as I really enjoy it. And hundreds of little pots of pot…

My Shetland

So, have discovered that my pack of Hansel F1 eggplant (aubergine) seeds is empty. Now trying to decide if we replace that like for like with seeds for a variety we know has grown very well for us, or go for a "Real Seeds" option and dive into the unknown. Real Seeds have just one long variety: "Long Purple": https://www.realseeds.co.uk/aubergines.html#aulp

Anyone here have any experience with this variety? I do generally trust Real Seeds, results with their stuff have been good so far.

We also need green/red capsicum ((bell)pepper) seeds. Which Real Seeds has a good list of. Probably going to try the "Kalbi Round": https://www.realseeds.co.uk/sweetpeppers.html#spkr

Then the deal has to be if we're getting "Real Seeds" we need to get with the programme and save our own seed for these. At least this isn't too complex a task for most of these Solanum type plants.

Aubergine Seeds to buy in the UK from The Real Seed Catalogue

Quality extra-early aubergine seed chosen specially for the UK climate, available from the Real Seed Catalogue.

I've planted my celery from stalk and sprouted onions in pots in the garden. I've put bamboo canes in the pots so the cats don't crap in them. I hope they do well.

Started my urban homestead journey, growing celery from celery, and onions from onions. #GrowVeg #Homesteading
Just got back from a quick trip to check the #allotment. Lovely sunny day. Spring #cabbage are doing well, #onions are up and #garlic also showing. Unfortunately, checking the #beehive revealed woody #woodpecker had been trying to get in!

@Plot_20 @fkamiah17 I grow a lot of beans, about 600 plants this year. What I do is get seed trays, half fill with compost and then put 50-60 beans in each tray and then cover with more compost. When they come through and get to 3" tall I gently pull them out, teasing the roots apart and plant them out. They don't seem to be affected by this treatment. You may get less in a tray with the bigger bean plants like runners and broad.

Been on the #allotment today, lovely and warm and sunny. The winter cabbages are looking good, so I cut one for dinner! Weighs in at 2.75Kg , the variety is Tundra.
The purple sprouting #broccoli is also looking good and is already sprouting, very early this year, the variety is Rudolf

I am a #newbie and it seems I should #introduce myself. I am a father and a husband. My politics are going more to the left as I get older. I am concerned about the environment and worry about my daughters' futures. Has my lifestyle has screwed theirs? Are there any other parents out there who worry about this?
