What I sowed today:

Okra, romanesco broccoli, dill, rosemary, purple carrots, slim orange carrots & a cool cilantro pea plant - you can eat the peas & foliage tastes like cilantro. It's a new experimental food crop for me. I got the seeds from a local farmer friend.

Well, damn! More microplastics.

How to keep microplastics out of your garden soil

As seed-starting and planting season kicks in, AP gardening columnist Jessica Damiano urges gardeners to try reducing plastic use in the garden. Plastic products break down into microplastics, which contaminate soil and food. Instead of plastic seed trays, try a soil-blocking kit to create compost-based cubes for seedlings. Biodegradable pots made from coir or composted manure are great alternatives. For larger plants, choose containers made of wood or terracotta. Fabric grow bags work well for root vegetables and herbs. Start your own compost pile to avoid plastic bags. Use bamboo or metal stakes and natural twine for support. Small changes can make a big difference in reducing plastic waste.

These are Asian greens that we grow & harvest as needed, year round. They are put under light covers in the colder Winter months. I keep their bases well mulched during Winter & they do just fine.

Super rainy day here. I ended up pulling a 12+ hours work day yesterday & was fully spent by end of the night.
I slept in today. Then, decided to make the most of an indoor day & got some more food plant seeds started, in zipped plastic bags.

I'm all done, for today 👩‍🌾
Very happy with all the new food plant seeds sowed today. Expect a ton of photos, in a few weeks, when my seeds sowed, start to sprout 😁

My tomato and chile seedlings are doing great! This is the longest I've had indoor-started seedlings survive.

I learned what my mistake has been in the past. Previously, I've used commercial potting soils that must not have had enough nutrients as the seedlings would gradually lose color then die.

This time, I transplanted them (when their first true leaves started appearing) into a home-made potting mix (1/2 vermiculite, 1/2 sifted compost).
