Gowwd… this so resonated with me. Like a cathedral bell inside my head, banging me into some awakened state. It’s slowly dawning on me that it’s time for another change in the way I live my life. Here I was thinking, I got this. I know what’s going on and I’m prepared for it. I have skills enough to recognise what it’s doing to me. Well, let me tell you. No matter how prepared and skilled you think you are, you can be fooled given enough time. As an unlikable army intelligence instructor I once had to endure was fond of saying: ‘The system, given enough time and resources, will always break you.’ And it’s hard these days to recognised, among all of those we’re subjected to, which system is brainwashing because there’s so much noise generated around it.

“Thinking and writing have become harder. It’s as if the neurons in my brain don’t connect with each other in quite the same way. I go to check a fact and get instantly diverted by a hundred other distractions on my phone. I find myself unable to devote time to thinking and writing like I used to.” (Source: https://www.theguardian.com/media/ng-interactive/2026/may/06/how-to-survive-the-information-crisis-we-once-talked-about-fake-news-now-reality-itself-feels-fake )

Oh, and that Intelligence Instructor… the British officer? I guess he’d be long gone by now. He seemed unhealthy to me at the time, both in body and mind.

How to survive the information crisis: ‘We once talked about fake news – now reality itself feels fake’

In this age of crisis, technology is pulling us apart. At its best, journalism can bring us together again, writes Guardian editor-in-chief Katharine Viner

Hey, please stop trying to turn #zionist into a slur. You already turned previously harmless words like #jew into a slur. Yes, I acknowledge #zionism can be dangerous but by definition, it isn't necessarily dangerous, and isn't inherently about #supremacy. Netanyahu and his enablers are not the only zionists out there. I am very disappointed to see such conspiratorial #groupthink from a creator I previously enjoyed. When I saw the post, I had to unfollow and report her.
The #GroupThink of government that Chilcot Report noted around system seeking and providing solution that was wrong but all participants in thinking and deciding abandoned their individual morals to a vile systemic sense of RealPolitik and no one was involved to dissent.

I wonder how many of the studies concluding that x% of people think a certain way are only referring to x% of allistic people.

People in Toronto obsessed with XL cinnamon buns that aren't even available yet
Larger-than-life cinnamon buns produced by a Toronto pizza joint have people in the city going wild before they've even gotten the chance to try them. It's been said (mostly by me, but that still counts) that people in Toronto would join a lineup even if they didn't know what was at the other end. Some may call it groupthink, but I prefer to belie...

A quotation from Henry Commager

If we establish a standard of safe thinking, we will end up with no thinking at all. That is the only “safe” way, and that is, needless to say, the most precarious, dangerous, of all ways.

How do you want your life to be? Round, smooth and predictable? Or dented, unique and moving in unexpected directions? This piece by Christopher Sherrod made think about how I see my life.

I embrace #individuality and #serendipity, and reject #groupthink and trends. By acknowledging myself, warts and all, I know that I can always find #meaning and #fullfilment in my life.

The Dented Ping Pong Ball and the Beauty of an Unplanned Life

What if the thing that disrupted your life is the very thing that can make it better? In this personal essay, I share how my cat’s dented ping pong ball became a lesson in embracing unexpected change. After a grand mal seizure forced me to give up driving and abandon old plans, I had to rebuild my life from the ground up. What felt like damage turned out to be direction. This is a reflection on resilience, identity, and how to build a fulfilling life when nothing goes according to plan.

"Party spirit makes clear-seeing eyes blind, and makes sharp-hearing ears deaf, and instigates people to engage in things which no mind is inclined to adopt."

—Al-Biruni, Chronology of Ancient Nations, chapter 5.

Al-Biruni is specifically railing against Muslims who base their fasting and religious observance on calculations instead of looking at the Moon as Muhammad ordered, but it's still a worthwhile warning against groupthink.

New in the Library: The Frankenstein Effect.

We analyze how tools intended for liberation are weaponized for domination. When we teach techniques (how to deconstruct) without ethics (why), we create "operators" rather than "thinkers."

This is a study on the neurochemistry of conflict and how dopamine rewards "social signaling" over truth.
