Disappearing City

A foggy morning in my hometown. The Adriaan windmill and the main church were completely shrouded in mist before, but had slowly started to appear again. This shot basically asked for a black and white treatment.

Soon, a few photography friends and I will be presenting each other our best shots of the past year. And with selecting your best shots, comes the dismissal of the ones you really like, but ultimately don't make the cut. I will be sharing those shots here, in chronological order. This is number 2 of 19.

Sunset

Yesterday, we finally had a good sunset again. That had been some time, or so it felt. So as soon as I saw yellow, orange and pink in the sky, I cycled to one of my go-to spots in my hometown. This is one of the shots I took.

Teylers Museum

The oldest museum in the Netherlands can be found in Haarlem, my home town. They have a Michelangelo exhibition now. I don't know if it's because of this, or if it's a more permanent change, but since a couple of weeks, the entrance is illuminated in these three colours. It suits the building quite well, I think. Left of the museum, the tower of the Grote Kerk (or Great Church) can be seen.

Early Morning

The river was nicely quiet when I rode past here on my bike. I saw how the golden, warm early morning sunlight hit the windmill and church, and just had to stop and take a picture of this view. I love mornings like this.

This week we are building up at the Grote Kerk Veere, Zeeland. Invited as ‘Kerkmeester’, Mike and I have created a site specific work to occupy the main nave of the church — a huge responsibility. We have a hanging sculpture, a multichannel soundscape, tactile sounds, lights and smells… we got too excited.

Now it’s time to make it happen and it’s been a slow process to move with this huge lift.
