The Texas way: why the most disaster-prone US state is so allergic to preparing for disasters

It faces hurricanes, heat, drought, rising seas and – as last week showed – deadly floods. But despite the clear need for preventive action, that is not the political mood

Of course the Great Orange Despot despises European leaders (except the authoritarian and/or sycophant ones). He also hates them for having so loudly and enthusiastically embraced and bowed to his predecessor. Whatever unfolds for the EU-USA betrayed partnership it will be tainted by orange malevolent revenge and spite... #gringoland #makelunacygreat #anamericantragedy

THINKING THE UNTHINKABLE In these times of increasing political instability and increasing corporate power grabs, with a few billionaire bozos to also add into the mix, it seems to me it would pay us well to start considering questions we might not have asked before. It is the unreflective assumption of many that things will always go on as they always have but in times like these that is a dangerous and maybe fatal assumption. The wise imagine what could happen rather than merely observing what is happening. So I wonder: 1. What would you do if your water supply failed? 2. What would you do if the shops closed? 3. What would you do if your bank account stopped working? 4. What would you do if a publicly infectious disease broke out? 5. What steps do you have in place for being able to survive, perhaps for weeks, without recourse to public resources? 6. What would you do if the power failed? 7. If you got injured but the hospital wouldn't accept you what would you do? These, and other, questions are ones you might want to think about in a time when governments all over the place are going rogue or simply being taken over by ideologues. It makes sense to build some resilience into your living situation or have some kind of idea for what to do in an emergency. And the time to think about that is before it happens rather than when it's too late. #politics #resilience #resistance

Watching from afar the trumpian farce unfolding across the Atlantic is both nauseating and comical, obscene in fact. And sinister. The demise of an empire, the american way, through lunacy, hatred, violence and greed. #usa2024 #gringoland
