Another 'gone but never forgotten' entry for today's
#WhiskersWednesday.
This is Sigrid. She was a freak. I adopted her as a tiny kitten but she was feral and hated humans... Including me for a long time.
In my apartment in NY she would only come out from hiding spots in the middle of the night to cuddle with my other cats and even the two huge dogs. She would occasionally venture out when I was awake, belly crawling across the floor, and she would stop dead if I looked directly at her. I'd say quietly 'I can see you, Sigrid' and she just wouldn't move until I turned away.
When I moved to Wales I genuinely considered leaving her behind with a large colony of feral cats that my neighbour and I used to feed. But in the end I just couldn't do it. So she was packed up and flown with the rest of the gang. Once in Wales we let her become an indoor/outdoor cat. You won't be surprised to hear that she was mostly an outdoor cat.
BUT... She would come in for food and warmth and once she knew she could do as she pleased, she came for the company, too. She'd wait until we were in bed for the night (we still have no idea how she knew) and she'd come up to the bed smelling like petrichor for some SERIOUS cuddling sessions. I mean, belly out and everything. She'd purr like a tiny jackhamner and she would also get so excited that she'd lay the stinkiest farts imaginable. You'd never believe the stench that came out of such a gorgeous little creature. And she looked like a kitten until the day she was gone. ๐ฉถ
