Not only is it beautiful to look at, but it also helps with stormwater management, provides natural insulation, and creates a small sanctuary for pollinators here in the forest.

The Javits Center in NY is well-known as a sprawling site for events like New York Comic Con, but perhaps fewer people know it has a 7-acre green roof made of sedum (or stonecrop) plants, with an orchard and rooftop farm, that’s also a wildlife sanctuary for over 70 species of birds. Seen here through one of the dotted bird-safe glass panels used all over the building.
