Sunday morning on Great Western Road in Glasgow. In the foreground is George Gilbert Scott's 1870s St Mary's Cathedral, while in the distance is John Honeyman's 1860s Lansdowne Parish Church. Between them, the road is lined with blonde sandstone Victorian tenements. This means this view has changed little in the last 150 years or so.

The entrance to St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral on Great Western Road in Glasgow. It was designed by Sir Gilbert Scott, who also designed the main building of Glasgow University in a similar Gothic Revival style.

This was the site that would, in the 1870s, become home to the Glasgow Stock Exchange (whose magnificent Venetian Gothic building atill stands there to this day). By then, the Globe Insurance Company has mergerd to form the Liverpool, London and Globe Insurance Company, who would go on to build their own magnificent building just a short distance away on the corner of St Vincent Street and Hope Street.

A rather stylish 1850s Classical townhouse, with Renaissance style detailing, on Buckingham Terrace in the West End of Glasgow. Designed by J.T. Rochead, it was first occupied by Robert Buchanan, a commission merchant, ship agent, and agent for the Globe Insurance Company, with an office at 157 Buchanan Street.

The Great Western Road Bridge over the River Kelvin at Kelvinbridge in the West End of Glasgow. Built in 1891, it was designed by Bell and Miller, with the iron work being created by William Arrol. It replaced an earlier bridge, the remains of which can still be seen under the current one.
