Our four gray cattle calves can still spend a few weeks outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. They eat like champions and always demand dry meadow hay as a change from fresh grass. They are waiting for fresh hay again. I have to bring two large basket full to the pasture a day. They are supposed to gnaw on young willow shoots in the forest above in the meantime as well. I read an article that said roughage from young shoots reduces greenhouse gases and ammonia in excrement.

Our two grey cattle calves are back from the alpine pasture and now in the calf compartment of our stable behind wooden bars. They are healthy and eat like champions. If the weather is nice, they will be out the whole day in the pasture for a few more weeks. The calf on the right is a poky aggressive one and constantly nudges the other calf. I hope that this improves and that she will not continue to butts with her horns later on as a cow. Still have to give both calfs a name.

03 October 2024: Time flies by. Our two newborn graycattle twin calves Jana and Jaro are lying on a bed of straw inside a barn with a whitewashed wall. Each calf is covered with a small towel or blanket to keep them warm. One calf is lying down resting, while the other is sitting upright with its head slightly lowered. Their fur appears wet, suggesting they were born very recently.
