Some bands just draw a good natured crowd, and Minus The Bear is one of them. At any given time in a crowd of 1,200, there were less than 5 phones in the air - folks were snapping quick “I was there” shots or 10 seconds of video, but no one was forced to watch an entire song through someone else’s phone. Personal space was respected, and people were polite when moving about. You could feel the gratitude and joy from the audience and the band for the 90 minutes we got to spend together celebrating some of our favorite music. And to get to see them in one of my favorite “small venues” that I’ve been going to for 30+ years was icing on the cake.
It’s a longer train back home than it was when I was living on this island, but at least my new route takes me through Grand Central Terminal. I remember the first time my Mom took me there as a child, and there’s an echo of that first moment of wonder in every return visit. I wish we could still make spaces like this.
