Scaning light with old school rules
Scaning light with old school rules
#Fluke, #Gossen, and other manufacturers of high-end digital #multimeter should seriously consider piggybacking on #mobile phones.
That way, they can focus on their core competencies of multimeter frontend, protection circuitry, function generation, low-level signal processing, and so on., while leveraging the phone's high-level data processing, massive storage, AI coprocessor, graphics coprocessor, touch UI, large screen, customisability, programmability, and the like, not to mention the fact that every #EE pockets a mobile, these days.
These two devices can then interact via a high-bandwidth cable or near-field connection.
As a long-time user of traditional multimeters (I started on the Simpson 260 analogue VOM, before switching to a Fluke DMM), it sickens me to say that. But I do believe this trend is inevitable. Some might even argue that such a mode shift necessary and good.
[12:15] Gaat de VVD Wilders rechts passeren? | opinie

Wer es also in grün will... :-)
Andere bekannte Inkarnationen: #Beha-Amprobe 2100-Delta, #CIMCO 111439, #Pan Allrounder 200AD, #Uniks CF1500, #Elma 2700X, #Testboy TV 230 ... Das #Testo 755 ist eine frühe Inkarnation davon und etwas anders
So this is "exciting:" I just got a light meter upgrade.
I've been using this #Gossen pilot for some time now, and while it's good... it's kinda broken. But, the local hamfest had one vendor that actually gave me a #Sekonic model 38, which seems to be in better condition.
The problem with the Gossen is that the actual needle has broken off, so it's quite short (shorter than the yellow pointer), and that the white plastic cover to slide over the sensor (to make it more of a scene average than specific spot reading) has cracked, meaning I don't trust using it.
The Sekonic needed a little calibration, but it's running pretty close to what my #Nikon D7000 is reading in matrix metering mode, so I'll call that good enough.
(More to follow if you want to know what makes this thing special)

Analoger #Belichtungsmesser #Lunasix 3 von #GOSSEN.
Die Messergebnisse sind vergleichbar mit neue digitalen Belichtungsmessern.
@[email protected] I think those are still made by #Cosina https://www.cosina.co.jp/voigtlander/en/accessories/vc-meter-ii/
I used to have a #Gossen #Digisix 2 https://gossen-photo.de/en/digisix-2/ which is a bit more plasticky, but it does have the ability to measure indirect light.

Everyone who follows SilvergrainClassics in any of its forms knows how we feel about the importance of light metering. The CEO of Gossen, Klaus-Peter Richter, is a photographer himself and has both in-depth knowledge about techniques and a unique perspective on the state of the industry.
Juho Leppänen is a driving force in the analog world— literally! His Camera Rescue team drive all over Europe collecting cameras that would otherwise be junked, take them back to their headquarters and skilled technicians, then get them into the hands of passionate film photographers.
Nick Carver has one of the most popular YouTube channels about film photography (and other subjects of interest to those who love to enjoy tangible delights like whiskey) and is also an experienced educator. Through one-on-one lessons in California and online workshops, Nick has racked up an impressive amount of experience in addition to his devoted online following.
And last but most definitely not least, we are thrilled to welcome David Burnett, star photojournalist. Dave has over six decades of experience as a photographer, is the co-founder of Contact Press Images agency, and has been named one of the “100 most important people in photography” by American Photo magazine. He has photographed every US president starting with John F. Kennedy, covered wars including Vietnam and Cambodia, shot the Time cover of the Ayatollah Khomeini, photographed the Apollo 11 launch, done important series of photos on topics as wide-ranging as Bob Marley, the Olympics, and all presidential impeachment trials since Nixon… It is impossible to sum up his career in less than a very large book.
Don’t miss the opportunity to join us live for the 6th Fireside Chat and submit your own questions!
We have a favor to ask. We want to make these online articles free to the world. We see it as our contribution to the photographic community. You can help by subscribing to our awesome analogue photography magazine – <https://shop.silvergrainclassics.com/subscriptions/>
