The gorse, (furze or whin) grows in forest edges and on heathlands, in areas with poor soil - Stralend goudgeel staat deze struik in de wintermaanden te bloeien. De gaspeldoorn staat in bosranden en op heidevelden, op plaatsen waar de grond voedselarm is 💛.

This was from another hike in 2013 (in preparation for the Cornwall trip), and I remember a massive downpour right at the start that left us drenched (maybe you can spot the wet flowers?).
We don't have gorse where I live, so I will forever associate it with the stunning coasts of Britain 💛 (and lots of scratches of course)

The gorse is starting to flower like mad right now and while it adds a nice pop of colour to an otherwise muted landscape I have had enough ill-fated experiences with these spiny bastard plants that I am wholly conflicted as to my view of them. Pretty and shitty.
