🎉 Hooray! It's 2026 and we've finally standardized source maps—a mere 10 years after we started using them! 🙄 Apparently, a Google Doc was the secret sauce holding the web together all this time. 🍝✨

Source Maps: Shipping Features Through Standards

Source maps are a vital part of modern web development, but a lack of standard has made it impossible for us to add new features or improve the debugging experience. This is the story of how we standardized source maps and how we continue to ship features through standards.

Today when signing into my Gmail found this exciting teaser from #Google "A new look is coming soon: Google is improving its sign-in page with a modern look and feel" (screenshot attached). It always makes me happy and inspires me to see Google doing what it does best, that makes them "the hottest business, media and technology success of our time" --quote from title of book The Google Story https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/164323.The_Google_Story by David Vise #goodreads, this book helped me a lot to learn from the genius of Google. Google has an uncanny ability to innovate novel methods to make products that stand out from the crowd, even when many others were trying out (inventing) different methods to achieve the same goal. #BillGates quote explains it nicely, "Gates acknowledged that Microsoft, for example—notwithstanding discussions about Internet search—didn’t execute as well as Google did. Though we were talking about it, he said, the talent we put on it and the way we conceptualized it weren’t sufficient in retrospect. That's always going to happen because there are thousands of companies trying specific things, and, you know, 999 of them fail. But there'll be one that has picked a very dedicated approach that does really catch on, and of course Google’s the best example of that."-quote from book The Greatest Business Decisions of All Time_ How Apple, Ford, IBM, Zappos, and others made radical choices that changed the course of business by Verne Harnish et al https://www.amazon.com/FORTUNE-Greatest-Business-Decisions-Time/dp/1603200592 #amazon. From my own experience I can give an example, so there are many #Notes apps and #Office #Docs apps available. Now turns out #WPSoffice that is otherwise comparable with #MicrosoftOffice has a simple feature of 'search within document' missing on its android app, but on other had #GoogleDocs can search inside document (find and replace button/tab) and also search selected text on document externally on your default browser search engine (search icon on keyboard). This example, to reiterate what #BillGates quotes above, shows again that when many are trying to build something (here build a note/doc app), #Google's way of building it (here Google Doc app) is better. I also got the new #GoogleKeep note taking app, and will try it out in future when need arises, but for now #GoogleDoc is what I'm using for my article 'Causal Climate Change Environment, Beyond CO2: Cow burp and MethaneSAT' , and in one click #GoogleAssistant is doing #TextToSpeech to read aloud to me my draft writing and also read out to me the online references I'm using, not to mention #GoogleAssistant is also taking written notes of my #dictation (writing down what I say). I usually do this #TextToSpeech #dictation with #Apple #Siri #Mac #iPad #iPhone but now on I will do this with #Google #Android #GoogleAssistant too, don't be jealous #Siri and #GoogleAssistant you're both the apple of my eye i.e. I like you both equally! :)

@acrypthash Hi, a very late comment here (I wanted to see if anybody else had used the #googledoc hashtag 😄)

I don't think there is a direct password feature. What you do instead is to make the document visible to everybody with the link, and then *treat the link as the password*.

The links to Google Docs are already of a form that cannot be guessed. So this is equivalent to putting the document up on an easy-to-guess URL and then distribute a hard-to-guess password via some other channel.

From discussing with @imperio on a #rustdoc issue, I realize that I might be alone in copy-pasting links into #GitHub issues? You can copy a link from any web page and paste it into the GitHub editor. You get a proper #Markdown link in return!

See https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/117662#issuecomment-1902094332 for a screenshot of what I mean.

I found this some years ago and I used it all the time now. It also works in other places such as a #googledoc. There you'll want to reset the formatting `Ctrl+\` afterwards.

Share away 😀

[rustdoc] Allows links in headings by GuillaumeGomez · Pull Request #117662 · rust-lang/rust

Reopening of #94360. Explanations Rustdoc currently doesn't follow the markdown spec on headings: we don't allow links in them. So instead of having headings linking to themselves, this PR generate...

A to naprawdę dobry system.
W każdym razie Ja bym jednak szedł w to a nie w #GoogleDoc .
Zaprojektuj tam formularz i się odezwij to może (...) uda się coś wykombinować z wersją #selfhosting tego systemu. Same definicje ankiety można eksportować/importować (xml, xls) jakby co.
@jaz And did you ask people first if they want to invite #gafam (here: via #googleDoc ) to this panel ?
Are there really no #foss / free from #corpo #surveillance tools ( #nextcloud, #cryptpad, etc.) to need google ?
As admin of the #fediverse server, I do not intend to invite them here in any form.

#JournalistsOnMastodon

Folks, I just found a treasure trove:

a list of over 1,300 #journalists that already are on #Mastodon in the form of a #googledoc

In order to give the #BorgSite its final push, journalists there need to see that there really is an audience for them here in the free #fediverse

Some pull marketing would be helpful: follow as many, as you find sensible. This helps a lot.

Please boost!
