Nba sotto shock: i Memphis Grizzlies hanno annunciato la morte improvvisa a soli 29 anni di Brandon Clarke. Selezionato al draft 2019 dai Thunder e girato due settimane dopo ai Grizzlies, Clarke ha vestito sempre la maglia di Memphis nelle sue sette stagioni Nba anche se nell'annata in corso ha collezionato appena due presenze: saltata la prima parte di regular season per i postumi di un infortunio al ginocchio, a dicembre ha accusato un problema al polpaccio e non è più sceso in campo.
"Siamo distrutti dalla tragica perdita di Brandon Clarke - si legge nella nota dei Grizzlies - Brandon era un compagno di squadra straordinario e una persona ancora migliore, il cui impatto sulla squadra e sull'intera comunità di Memphis non sarà dimenticato. Le cause della morte sono ancora ignote. Il decesso arriva quasi sei settimane dopo il suo arresto in Arkansas per sorpasso improprio, possesso di droga, fuga ed eccesso di velocità. Il giocatore aveva appena concluso la sua settima stagione Nba, sempre con i Grizzlies. Clarke era stato scelto nel 2019 dopo l'esperienza universitaria a Gonzaga e aveva avuto un immediato successo nella maggiore lega di basket al mondo, ottenendo un posto nel miglior quintetto dei debuttanti e mantenendo una media di 12,1 punti e 5,9 rimbalzi a partita, la migliore della sua carriera. Nel 2022 Clarke aveva firmato un'estensione di quattro anni del contratto da 50 milioni di dollari con Memphis.

Selected by the Thunder in the 2019 draft and traded two weeks later to the Grizzlies, Clarke always wore the Memphis jersey in his seven NBA seasons, although he only had two appearances in the current season: he missed the first part of the regular season due to a knee injury, and in December he suffered a hamstring problem and did not return to the court.

The cause of death is still unknown. The death comes almost six weeks after his arrest in Arkansas for reckless driving, drug possession, fleeing, and speeding. The player had just completed his seventh NBA season, always with the Grizzlies. Clarke was chosen in 2019 after his college experience at Gonzaga and had an immediate success in the world’s top basketball league, earning a place in the best rookie quintet and maintaining an average of 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, the best of his career. In 2022, Clarke signed a four-year $50 million extension with Memphis.
