California sees return of ‘gold fever’ amid record-high gold prices
"McNair is working to fill a one-ounce vial of gold. A year ago, such a vial would have been worth about $2,660. This week, the price climbed to a record $3,858. The result, according to McNair? “Gold fever,” with hobbyists pouring into the foothills to hunt for gold. This summer, Matelot Gulch has seen an influx of visitors from across the state, as well as countries as far away as Switzerland and the Netherlands."
