Bird Identification Help!

Saw this and a few other eagles eating something in a field during a hailstorm.

95% sure this is a juvenile bald eagle and not a golden eagle... what do you think?

The dark beak throws me off and Google Lens says one photo is a bald eagle and the other photo a golden?

The culprit. This is the Golden Eagle the Rock Ptarmigans were scared of in my last photo. Look at this bird, huge, powerful and so impressive. Seeing more and more Golden Eagles up north really makes me happy. I know that reindeer herders might not appreciate them as much since they can prey on reindeer calves or even hunt injured adults. I am also thinking that I need to get a better lens for wildlife photos. My current Tamron 50-400 is not fast enough nor has enough reach.

Running or rather flying away. These Rock Ptarmigans were part of a flock that flew right above us, scared by a Golden Eagle. I do not know if Golden Eagles really hunt Rock Ptarmigans, but if I were one of them, I would try to get away too. Picture from the February 2026 ski tour to Pältsan.

Some more live nest cam links to keep an eye on in future. Four (4!) different golden eagle nests have started having visits from the parents, renovating the nest and getting it ready for the upcoming season. Not a lot of activity yet, but it'll only increase in the coming weeks.
