I saw the #MonochromeMarch hashtag and thought it would be fun to do a painting! This painting is of a banded alder borer and was done in gouache on 12"x9" mixed media paper only using the color black. It was a very fun painting to do! (zine permission granted.)

#ScribesAndMakers: How's it going?

my gouache setup is back online so I've been painting again. trying the limit my palette even further but figuring out that yes, I do need those colors lol.

here's a bit of something I'm not super happy with. I did the more finished color one and didn't like it (shadows too cool in tone), so I started again. like the new sketch better but still futzing around with this time I'm trying to do with eyes in the shadows of the folds in the dress, and maybe making the bodice look a little more like it's made of teeth. feedback welcome.
